Dressing For Transitional Weather
We have had some weather to brag about this year! One day in the 20’s and the next in the 80’s. Crazy! Makes it a little difficult to plan your wardrobe when you don’t know if you need a coat or a tank top to get through the day. Since it’s Texas, better to take both, just in case.
Here are some suggestions for your transitions this year and I’ve used items from my closet and a few new items to give you some ideas. Use your favorite wardrobe pieces for most of the year, changing how you style them with the change of seasons. This is a simple way to get a lot more mileage out of your existing closet and enjoy adding some trendy accessories or investing in some high quality basics with all those smart savings. Hope you enjoy the style show!
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I fell for this reversible coat the end of last winter and only got one wearing before Spring 2018. This season, I have worn the grey with brown and black and the oyster beige with cream and camel. The oyster beige is also great as my “Spring Coat”. They actually have such things up North where they have to keep wearing coats until the end of May. AGGHHH! In this case, wearing the coat with a T-shirt and open-toe pumps makes the look fresh. You could also use a light colored raincoat as your transition coat.
This pair of black bootcut pants has been hanging out in my closet for over ten years. I’ve worn them many times. Every time I think I’m going to let them go, I try them on and they look so classy I would buy them again right now. THAT, is a great test for whether to keep something or let it go. Would you buy it again? If not… This transition was an easy one because I have been wanting to wear this cute Land’s End cotton sweater and it is definitely a Springime sweater.
This cute cotton skirt, a recent find adds a whole new look to my wardrobe. Dark prints are on trend and easy to wear yearound. I layered this one with a sweater, shawl and boots for winter. It’s equally appropriate with tights and chili pepper red open toe slingbacks for Spring. It will be good in the summer with slides or sandals. Four seasons from one skirt! Hint: That makes a dark print skirt an awesome travel investment too.
When your bestie (consignment and thrift shopper extrodinaire) texts you a picture of a gorgeous Boden printed coat and says, “Is this you?” the answer is YES. It was my Christmas present from her and I love it. I’ve been waiting for the first Spring opportunity to wear it and this is the week for it! I confess that it inspired my must-have on the new pale pink booties. The pants are Leith vetiver from Nordstrom and I’ve already worn them 10 different ways, day and evening. Soft crepe, pleated with pockets and tapered at the ankle, no wrinkles. This is my go-to pant. I own it in 2 colors and I may buy more in the Spring colors.
I love the red/orange combo because it is a soft contrast that doesn’t cut my short figure in half. The winter version was a go-to outfit dressed up with heels or dressed down with flat boots. The Spring version is more jazzy with the silk jacket and off white boots. Note: Other interesting color combinations that don’t give high contrast are light green/yellow, blue/green and blue/purple.
These are my favorites of the transition looks, both the Winter and the Spring. I am a sucker for a striped T-shirt or sweater and this one from J Crew is a thin wool blend that will be great for the transition and all next winter too. As a basic piece, my wardrobe would be sadly lacking without this ivory Vince Camuto skirt. I wear it all year long with almost every T-shirt, blouse and sweater I own.
So, I would love to have your feedback: which of these looks are your favorites and why? Feel free to share on your social if you think your friends would enjoy having this info. The little icons are at the top of the page.
